Week In Review: June 27 through July 3

Here is a look at what happened in town this week.

This week was all about youth baseball as the Cal Ripken Tournament had local athletes gunning for a trip to the state tournament.

Unfortunately, it was a tough tournament for many teams. It was a win then a loss on Saturday with the 9-year-olds winning and the 12-year-olds losing.

On Sunday, the 10 and 12-year-olds were eliminated. The only team left was the 11-year-olds who fought hard to be the last left standing. While they lost Wednesday night, they will still play in the state all-star tournament later this month.

This week was also the week students and families settled into their summer plans. A summer reading kick-off party was held at the library on Tuesday.

The Board of Health continued to figure out what is next for the landfill, but few answers were found this week. Glover supporters also continued to regroup after the override loss and sent a letter to the state asking to continue to honor the 40 percent reimbursement should the school be rebuilt.

Later in the week, thoughts turned to the holiday weekend as the Festival of Arts kicked off on Thursday. The 55th year of the YMCA Children's Island camp also started this week.

With today being the Fourth of July, there is plenty to do. Make sure you check out where the best places are to watch the fireworks tonight at 9 p.m.

Happy 4th from Marblehead Patch
