Week In Review: June 6 to June 12

Here's a look at what happened in town this week.

This week started off with the graduation of 235 Marblehead High School seniors in a creative ceremony in the school's field house. The ceremony, however, was marred by vandalism to the school earlier in the weekend. Police are still investigating who caused damage to the interior and exterior of the school sometime before graduation.

In preparation for this Tuesday's special election, the Glover School Building Committee held two open houses at the school. The tours were aimed to give people a glimpse into how badly a renovation is needed. Few turned out for the open houses.

This week's big debate was over a painting of Adolph Hitler hung in the Art Association as part of an exhibit featuring historical icons -- both good and bad.

Marblehead artist Gage Delprete said his art is meant to spark conversation and in no way is he glorifying the dictator. His exhibit also included images of Jesus Christ and Darth Vader.

The painting came under fire when Susan Fader protested that the painting was in poor taste and insulting to those who have lost family members in the Holocaust.

The MAA refused to remove the painting and a protest scheduled for Thursday morning was attended by just two people.

Locals spent the end of the week gearing up for the start of the Farmers' Market and getting their wallets ready for a weekend of bargain hunting at this weekend's sidewalk sales.
