5 Things You Need to Know Today: August 2

Here is a list of things going on in and around Marlborough today.

1. While there is a slight chance of thundestorms after 1 p.m., most of the day should be bright and sunny with a high of 84 degrees, says the National Weather Service

2. New England Area, has donated (4) Red Sox tickets to the Labor Day Parade Committee to use as prizes in a fundraiser for the Labor Day Parade. Two pairs of tickets are being raffled. The tickets are for the Boston vs. Baltimore game at 7:10 p.m. on Sept. 20, 2011.  Seating is in Section 12; Row 6; Seats 1, 2 and 3, 4.  The advertised price of these tickets is $52.00 a piece. The raffle chances are selling for $10 each.

Organizations willing to help with the distribution of chances, please contact the Parade Director, Ed Thurber – 508-485-4599. The drawing will be held at City Hall, on Sept. 12 at 2 p.m. Winners do not have to be present and will be notified. Winners must claim their prize in person at City Hall. The deadline to enter the raffle will be on Sept. 12 at 1 p.m.

3. The Labor Day Parade Director is also accepting nominations for Parade Grand Marshal. Send an email with your nomination to the Director, and include all information that supports your nomination.

4. The Marlborough Chamber of Commerce will be hosting their First Tuesday Business Talk from 9 to 10:30 a.m. today. Enjoy informal conversation on local and regional business and community issues. This time also gives you an opportunity to network with other members and guests are welcome. Coffee compliments of Mary & Randy Scott of . Cash breakfast. No pre-registration needed, just show up and enjoy!

5. The Walmart off Route 85 just over the Hudson line will celebrate a grand (re)opening on Wednesday, featuring the newly added grocery facility (Super Walmart). VIP open house begins at 8 a.m. and the grand opening ceremony and ribbon cutting is at 9 a.m.
