5 Things You Need To Know Today: Feb. 27
Marlborough schools recently got a boost from a state-issued grant, and at least two residents will be running for cancer research in the upcoming Boston Marathon.

1. Do you represent or own a Marlborough business? If so, look it up on Marlborough Patch and claim the listing. It's a great way to let everyone know what you have going on! Also, if you know of a great local business that isn't yet in our directory, email josh.gray@patch.com with the name of the business and I'll get it in the works. 2. Pete Binkewicz and Meghan Lipcon, of Marlborough, will be running in the 116th Boston Marathon to help conquer cancer as members of the Dana-Farber Marathon Challenge team. These Marlborough residents, along with Dana-Farber Marathon Challenge teammates from across the United States and around the world, will run Massachusetts’ historic marathon route from Hopkinton to Boston with a goal to raise $4.8 million for cancer research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
3. Starting Wednesday, Feb. 29. from 6 to 8 p.m., will offer a beginner's class in wire working. Participants will make a cape amethyst and silver/gold spiral bracelet for $35 (total), $5 deposit. All tools and materials including cape amethyst, silver plated wire, and a silver plated brass toggle (add $15 for sterling) will be provided. 4. A St. Patricks Day skating party for cancer research will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Saturday, March 17, at the Roller Kingdom in Hudson. Children: $10 and Adults: $15 (price includes admission and rentals). There will be great prizes so bring some extra cash to buy some raffle tickets! All proceeds will benefit Team Maureen and the PMC event.
5. Governor Deval Patrick recently announced a $10,000 grant to the STEM/21st Century Elementary School as part of $281,000 in grants to 29 potential Innovation Schools across the Commonwealth.
