Credit Union Bank Robber was Unarmed

A note was all it took to spark a robbery and set off a flurry of events Friday morning at the St. Mary's Credit Union on Northboro Road East where an unarmed robber attempted to rob the bank, according to a release from the Marlborough Police Department.

"It was learned that no weapon had been shown by the suspect and a written note had been passed demanding money," said Police Chief Mark Leonard in the release.

The hold-up alarm went off at approximately 9:04 a.m., prompting police to respond to the bank. On arrival, they were able to get a description of the suspect, his vehicle and the direction he had driven in.

A vehicle matching the description was spotted by officers minutes later within a short distance of the bank. The vehicle was pulled over and the driver was taken into custody, according to the release.

The driver, identified by police as Alexander Bardash, 36, had items in his car that linked him to the robbery, according to the release. During an interview at the station, he made statements which further verified his involvement as the sole participant in the robbery.

Bardash has been charged with unarmed robbery and destruction of property.
