Demo of Former SMOC Building to Begin
The former headquarters of the South Middlesex Opportunity is slated for destruction in anticipation of a new TD Bank location.
After weeks of passerby being warned of an impending demolition at 133 East Main St., the former Marlborough headquarters of the is expected to come down any day, said city officials.
"This may cause temporary and periodic traffic delays and road closures," said the city's Facebook page. "During this process you may wish to take alternate routes during the early part of next week."
Contractors have been on the scene for weeks removing asbestos from the facility, said .

A former shoe factory, the building will be torn down to make way for a TD Bank location, said a 2010 Main Street Journal article.
"City Council approved on Monday a 24-hour drive-through ATM window as part of a new TD Bank planned for the intersection of Lincoln Street and East Main Street," said the article. "The permit clears the way for the demolition of a tired 24,000 square foot office building… making room for a new 3,000 square-foot bank and ATM complex."

SMOC has relocated to 57 Mechanic St.
The 133 East Main St. locale is currently fenced off with warnings posted concerning the impending demolition. The means by which the current building would be destroyed was not available as of this post.
