A "fully-engulfed" vehicle fire stopped traffic for a short time on I-290 East early Wednesday afternoon.
A traffic alert was issued for vehicles traveling in Marlborough in the vicinity of I-290 eastbound at Exit 26 (I-495).
Police scanner traffic reported a fully-engulfed vehicle fire in that area, and Deputy Chief James Diamond of the Marlborough Fire Department confirmed the early reports.

"The driver was headed down the highway when he was some smoke and fire under the dash," said Diamond. "The driver pulled over and called 911. When Engine 2 arrived on the scene the vehicle was fully involved."
Diamond was not aware of the car's make and model due to the condition of the vehicle after the fire.
