Gas Prices Continue to Rise in Marlborough

Gas prices have steadily risen in Massachusetts over the past month.

For the fourth consecutive week in a row, gas prices in Marlborough and Massachusetts as a whole have continued to rise. 

"Gasoline prices have risen well above $4.00 a gallon in most every state across the country. The average U.S. family with two drivers is now paying nearly $1,000 more annually for gas than they were just two years ago according to a recent study by research gurus," said a release from the Better Business Bureau. 

AAA’s Aug. 1 survey of prices in Massachusetts found self-serve, regular unleaded averaging $3.759 per gallon, up one cent from a week ago. Adding, the current price is five cents above the national average for self serve unleaded of $3.70.

This is more than a $1 above the unleaded price of year ago at this time in Massachusetts, which was $2.66.

AAA reccommends that consumer shop around their area for the best prices, as they can vary widely.

"The range in prices in the latest AAA survey for unleaded regular is 40 cents, from a low of $3.59 to a high of $3.99," said a statement issued by AAA on Monday. 

In Marlborough, motortrend.com lists the at 114 East Main St. as having the lowest unleaded prices in the city at $3.799, though both Cumberland Farms and BJ's in nearby Hudson are currently selling at $3.67 a gallon. 

The local branch of the Better Business Bureau offered more sound advice. 

“Summer travelers should shop around. Nowadays, many smartphones have apps specifically for finding the cheapest gas prices in your area,” said Paula Fleming, vice president of communications and marketing for the Marlborough BBB office. “You may even want to consider getting a credit card that gives you cash back bonuses on gas purchases.”
