MARLBOROUGH, MA — The Marlborough City Council on Monday will take an initial step toward considering a proposed 300-unit residential development along the Assabet River Trail near the Boston Scientific Campus.

At a public hearing at Monday's meeting, residents can give their opinion on a proposed zoning change that would make way for the development. A proposed overlay district would allow a Texas-based developer to build on a wooded parcel at the end of Sasseville Way.

Developer Trammel Crow Corp. went to city council at the end of July seeking the overlay district. Trammel's request, however, did not include details about any proposed development. The public hearing on Monday will likely reveal more details about the project. Trammel Crow has requested the overlay district allow mixed-use, which indicates any development could include retail or restaurant spaces.

Trammel Crow, which is linked to CBRE Group, Inc., entered into an agreement with Boston Scientific in July to buy the Sasseville Way parcel. Boston Scientific's headquarters is just south of the proposed development area.

Monday's public hearing begins at 8 p.m. in the city hall council chambers.
