Local businesses are the heart of our communities. Patch had a chance to talk with Matt Kidd, CEO, of Endless Energy.
Patch: Tell us a bit about your business or organization:
Matt Kidd: While we specialize in heating and cooling solutions such as heat pumps, boilers, furnaces, and central AC systems, we consider ourselves a one-stop shop as we have Master Plumbers, Electricians, Mass Save Home Energy Specialists and HVAC Technicians all under one roof reducing customers’ need to find multiple contractors. Our service territory covers most of Massachusetts, so whether you are in the Central Massachusetts, Metro West, North Shore, South Shore, or Boston areas, you’ll probably see our trucks on the road!

Patch: How long have you been doing business in town?
Matt Kidd: Endless Energy was found in 1980, expanded to Massachusetts in 2012, and the Massachusetts part of the company spun out to be a stand alone home services company in 2021.
Patch: What attracted you to the line of work you’re in, and how did you get started?
Matt Kidd: I am not a tradesman, but have always had an interest in attempting my own repairs and understanding how things work. I’ve also been a lifelong proponent of reducing our carbon footprint, of which electrification play a huge role. I came to Endless Energy three years ago because I saw an incredible opportunity to use my business background to help grow a business focused on more sustainable heating solutions such as heat pumps in a state that has targeted to have heat pumps in 500,000 homes by 2030.

Patch: What's the most common piece of advice you give to customers?
Matt Kidd: Not all companies and not all systems are alike. We see a lot of customers hunting for the lowest price possible, but who then come back with regret saying they were abandoned by a contractor or were sold heat pumps that weren’t Energy Star cold climate rated and looking to replace them 1-2 years later. Does the company properly size a system for your house using an ACA approved Manual J? If they do not, you may end up with a over or under sized system, which may impact performance. Also what is the contractor’s experience? Endless Energy is recognized as a top installer of heat pumps and is a certified as a Mitsubishi Diamond Elite contractor, LG Platinum Pro Dealer, Fujitsu Elite Contractor giving our customers access to their extended 12-year parts & equipment warranty. Lastly make sure your home is properly insulated. This is one of the key reasons that we are a Mass Save Home Performance Contractor, so that we can conduct energy audits and properly insulate our customers.
Patch: What’s the most satisfying part of your job?
Matt Kidd: I love hearing from customers, both the compliments and the constructive feedback that helps us improve (and there is always room to do that!). These are the things that both fuel us and make us better. The best comments to hear are one or two years after we’ve done work and the customer is having us perform annual preventative maintenance on their HVAC system. That’s when you often hear how much more comfortable a customer is or that they have reduced their energy bills.
Patch: How would you say your business or organization distinguishes itself from the others?
Matt Kidd: I’d say there are three things. First for most customers, we are a one stop shop as a contractor to limit coordination required by the homeowner. For example, a customer wanting to do a whole home heat pump project can have their heat pump, electrical service upgrade. their Mass Save® Home Energy Assessment and insulation work required for the whole home $10,000 rebate, and even their water heater converted to a heat pump hot water heater all done by us – without ever having to call another contractor. The second thing that is unique to us is that for customers eligible for Mass Save rebates, we take their rebates upfront as instant rebates. At the end of the project it is us, not the homeowner who is waiting for the rebate. We do this because it reduces the out of pocket cost for consumers. Finally we partner with an outside company to offer an extended labor warranty. For most installation projects our standard labor warranty is 5 years with an option to upgrade to a 10 years.
