PHOTOS: A Glimpse Inside Holiday Decor At The Wayside Inn In Sudbury

The Sudbury Garden Club has led the inn's annual holiday decorating for more than half a century.

SUDBURY, MA — It takes more than 100 candles and 60 wreaths to decorate Sudbury's historic The Wayside Inn for the holidays.

For more than half a century, the Sudbury Garden Club has led the inn's annual holiday decorating. Over time, the effort has expanded to include 11 other garden clubs in the area, each one responsible for decorating a room in the inn, which dates back to 1716.

Jo Ann Forester has overseen the decorating for the past 12 years, and now works alongside co-chair Carol Shapanka, who is in her third year in the role. Together, they help coordinate volunteers, some of whom have been participating for 25 years, who bring the vision to life.

While most of the decorations stay true to the inn's Classic Colonial Christmas theme, the lobby tree changes each year. This year's theme is "Patriotic Yuletide Jubilee" in honor of America's 250th birthday.

Many of the garden clubs that participate create handmade ornaments to hang on the lobby tree. Those clubs include Framingham, Holliston, Hopkinton, Hudson, Marlborough, Natick, Northborough, Pinefield, Southborough, Sudbury, Thursday of Sudbury and Wayland.
