Marlborough 2023 Mayoral Preliminary: Election Guide
Everything to know about Marlborough's four-way mayoral preliminary on Tuesday. Polls open at 7 a.m.

MARLBOROUGH, MA — A rare incumbent-free mayoral preliminary election will take place Tuesday in Marlborough, giving voters the chance to pick the two candidates who will advance to the general election in November.
Candidates Michael Baker, police officer Patrick Hogan, Ward 3 Councilor Christian Dumais and At-Large Councilor Samantha Perlman are all vying to win the mayoral seat following Mayor Arthur Vigeant's retirement announcement earlier this year. Voters haven't had a preliminary election without an incumbent since 2011 — the year Vigeant won the seat.
The 2011 preliminary featuring three candidates, with Vigeant and local attorney Matthew E. Jones coming out on top. Vigeant won the seat by just 42 votes, a margin so close Jones considered a recount.
