Booster shots have been approved for anyone who has been fully vaccinated six or more months ago (five months people who got two doses of Moderna). The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has also approved mixing shots for the booster — for example, someone who got two Pfizer doses can get a Moderna booster.

Although vaccinated people can still get COVID-19, vaccines provide a high level of protection against severe disease, hospitalization and death, according to health officials.
