Marlborough Election 2023: 16 Positions Will Be On Ballot
Some major moves have happened before Marlborough's 2023 election, but the races will kick off in May when the nominating period starts.

MARLBOROUGH, MA — Although election season in Marlborough has arguably been underway for a few months, it will officially get underway in less than two weeks when the nomination period begins.
According to City Clerk Steve Kerrigan, incumbents and challengers can begin pulling papers to run in the 2023 election on May 8. The nomination period will run through Aug. 18, which is the deadline to turn in the required number of signatures for each office that will be on the ballot.
In 2023, Marlborough voters will go to the polls in November — and possibly in October if a preliminary election is necessary — to elect a new mayor, four at-large councilors, seven ward city councilors, three school committee members and one Assabet Valley Regional Technical School Committee member.

The incumbents holding those seats right now include:
- Mayor Arthur Vigeant
- At-Large Councilors Michael Ossing, Kathleen Robey, Mark Oram and Samantha Perlman
- Ward 1 Councilor Laura Wagner
- Ward 2 Councilor David Doucette
- Ward 3 Councilor Christian Dumais
- Ward 4 Councilor Teona Brown
- Ward 5 Councilor John Irish
- Ward 6 Councilor Sean Navin
- Ward 7 Councilor Donald Landers Sr.
- Marlborough School Committee members Daniel Caruso, Katherine Henessey and Heidi Matthews
- Assabet Valley School Committee member Peggy Ayres
However, Vigeant — who is also a member of the school committee as mayor — is not running for reelection in 2023. His absence could mean at least two shifts on the city council: Perlman and Dumais have already announced that they will run for Vigeant's seat, leaving two potential openings on the council — they can't run for reelection as councilors and for mayor at the same time.
