Marlborough Hospital To Double ER With $46M Expansion: Report

The expansion will nearly double the size of the hospital's emergency room.

MARLBOROUGH, MA — A hospital in Marlborough is almost doubling the size of its emergency room, according to the Worcester Business Journal.

Marlborough Hospital broke ground on an expansion project that will add 10 new beds to its existing 13 in its emergency department, according to WBJ. The construction will also add seven thousand square feet to the department.

The project will cost $36 million, along with an extra $4 million for a new CAT scan machine and $6 million for a clinic to treat chronic illnesses, according to WBJ.

WBJ reports that the hospital hopes to see its first patient in the bigger emergency room by November 2026.

This announcement comes as Marlborough Hospital will merge with UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester. That is expected to be complete by January.
