MARLBOROUGH, MA — Marlborough this week received a $3 million grant to begin the reconstruction of a key section of Lincoln Street.

The grant was given to the Marlborough Economic Development Corp. through the state's HousingWorks Infrastructure Program as part of an effort to spur residential growth along Lincoln Street.

"Marlborough will complete phase 3 of the Lincoln Street Reconstruction Project and make targeted improvements along Lincoln Street from Highland Street to Bolton Street to unlock new residential growth and private investment in this environmental justice area," the state said in its grant announcement.

The grant will fund work beginning near the beginning of the Assabet River Rail Trail, which is also next to the under-construction Alta Marlborough apartments. The building will include 276 units, plus commercial space on the ground floor.

As part of the project, the developer will build a new public parking lot and bathroom facility at the Assabet trailhead, which will be turned over to the city upon completion.
