Marlborough Public Works Dumps On Seniors

Snowplows tear up property and no one cares.

MARLBOROUGH, MA—It was 2 a.m. last Saturday night and I heard the snow plows rumbling by. I thought, "Oh no, what are they doing this time?"

Sure enough, when I looked out of the window the next day, I saw it again—what usually happens every winter in Marlborough. The snow plow comes across the front of my property, too close and tears up the first few feet of my lawn and dumps a pile of dirt along with the snow all across my driveway entrance. I can't use my snowblower because the dirt and rocks will ruin it.

I couldn't go out of my house. If there was an emergency, what would I do? My husband and I are 74 years old and this is a terrible thing to do to us. Now that the snow has melted, the dirt is still there and I can't even put my garbage pails out where they should go near to the street. I pay my taxes, try to be a good citizen and what do I get?

A few times in past years I called Marlborough Public Works and was once told that everyone gets dumped on by the snow plows -- which seems to make it OK, they think. It's bad enough when they leave 3 or 4 feet of snow across my driveway, but with the rocks and dirt I can't even use my snowblower. Once, I complained so loudly when the dirt was really high and a truck came and shoveled it away. This time I wrote to the Mayor, left a message with Public Works but I haven't heard anything from them. The dirt is still there and so am I but I wish I was elsewhere.
