MARLBOROUGH, MA—Is it us, or do the summers feel shorter and shorter. Parents perhaps are breathing a sigh of relief, but kids and teachers are checking their calendars daily as the school year gets ready to hit. Most teachers have already headed back to prep for a few days before the children land in those desks.

Here's a guide to help you navigate the march back to the classroom.

When does school start?

The first day for grades 1-12 is Aug. 29. Both ECC and Kindergarten students begin on Sept. 6.

Currently there are 4,671 student enrolled, which is an increase over last year.

In the district:

There are seven schools in the district: three elementary schools; the Whitcomb Middle School; Marlborough High School, Hildreth Alternative High School; and the Early Childhood Center.

What's new?

Dan Riley starts his first year as the new principal at Marlborough High School. There are also 42 new teachers starting in the Marlborough system this school year. Currently, construction is underway for the district's fourth elementary school, to be located on Poirier Drive. Kindergarten for the first time is starting later in the year, on Sept. 6.
