Marlborough, Wayland, Sudbury Getting Big MWRTA Service Increases

MARLBOROUGH, MA — The MetroWest Regional Transit Authority will roll out new summer schedules Monday, increasing service in Marlborough, Wayland, Sudbury and beyond.

At the center of the schedule changes are three new "Go Outdoors" shuttles that transport locals to outdoor destinations like local town beaches and Cochituate State Park. The shuttles will be available as a pilot program between June 10 and Aug. 30.

The GO3 shuttle will be MWRTA's first recent expansion of service in Wayland. The shuttle will include a stop at Wayland Town Beach, plus access to shopping areas along Route 9 in Framingham and Wayland. The only fixed-route MWRTA service in Wayland is a stop near Routes 30 and 27 near the Natick border.

For Marlborough riders, the Route 7 bus will feature new express loops, cutting the travel time between downtown Framingham and downtown Marlborough to as little as about 25 minutes in some cases.

The new schedules come amid a flurry of recent MWRTA expansions. The transit agency expanded Catch Connect and added new night service in a wide area from Milford to Marlborough. For the first time since 2019, Sudbury will have access to MWRTA service starting July 1 through Catch Connect. Sudbury is planning a kick-off event for Catch Connect at the senior center on Thursday.

MWRTA has also extended its "Try Transit" program, offering fare-free bus rides and on-demand rides across the network. The program is set to expire on June 30.
