MARLBOROUGH, MA — A new sober living home opening soon in New Hampshire will honor a Marlborough man who lost his life in the opioid crisis — and the recovery home is looking for some startup help.

The Hope 2 Freedom Recovery Home "Corey's Place" in Claremont, NH, will house up to 10 men in recovery. The home bears the name of Corey Merrill, a Marlborough man who died in 2011 due to an overdose.

Merrill's mother, Cheryl Juaire, founded the Marlborough-based nonprofit Team Sharing, which helps parents cope with the loss of a child due to substance use disorder. Juaire lost a second son, Sean, to an overdose in 2021.

Juaire said Corey's place is trying to open by April 1, but needs some specific items to fill the home, especially 10 twin beds and bureaus, twin bedsheets, comforters, bath towels and blankets. The home is also looking for kitchen items like pots and pans, plates, bowls, utensils, mixing bowls and small electronics like a coffee maker, toaster and crock pot.

"All of this will go towards helping men on their road to recovery," Juaire said. "While in this home they will work the program all the while getting the services they need, and hopefully long term employment, so they can go out into the community once all of this is in place and become members of the recovery community who can now give back to help others. Saving lives one at a time."

"Corey's Place" was cofounded by the mother of Merrill's daughter, who is now 12. The sober living home will have a sister center in Claremont called "Donna's Place" for women in recovery.
