OPINION: Yummy Kitchen Offers Classic Chinese Take-Out at Great Prices

This grab-and-go joint on Boston Post Rd. E. gives super-sized portions at lower than average prices.

The best way I can describe the food at Yummy Kitchen is: cheap, classic, and most importantly, pretty darn good.

When I think about going out for Chinese food, I don't necessarily always want the pricey, high-end product I might get at a PF Chang's (or something of that caliber). I want the spicy, delicious chunks of General Gao chicken in a sweet, savory sauce, or the simple goodness of some beef and broccoli all at a good price.

These are things that Yummy Kitchen does very well. The lo mein is also very good with a variety of options, though the shrimp isn't always deveined.

The steamed pork dumplings are always another highlight for me. Large and filled with plenty of meat, they are very well-complimented by a delicious dipping sauce.

The cost to volume ratio has to be the greatest benefit of this family-run business. Well less than $10 will get you get you two full meals, with the main course, your choice of a heaping portion of white or fried rice, and a side option of chicken fingers, crab rangoon, etc.

I do not recommend attempting to eat-in, however, as the facility is very sparsely decorated and only has a few seats. I have found the staff to be very friendly and helpful, both on the phone and in person.

Diner reviews on Yelp are mixed, but Yummy Kitchen has an overall rating of 3 stars.

Whatever the spectrum of your taste in Chinese food, I am confident that many readers know what I mean when I say has the kind of food you might stumble upon in any neighborhood strip mall in America, and I, for one, think that's a good thing.
