Pair Arrested On I-495 After Taking SUV With Toddler Inside

BERLIN, MA — Two Essex County residents were arrested late Monday after a pursuit along I-495 involving a stolen SUV with a toddler inside.

Just before 8:30 p.m. Monday, police began looking for a Honda Pilot stolen in Lawrence. The SUV had an 22-month-old girl in the back seat.

By 10 p.m., police reported that the girl was dropped off at Lawrence Hospital, but the car thieves were still on the run. The girl was dropped off before police could activate an AMBER Alert.

Shortly after the toddler was found, state and Chelmsford police located the SUV along I-495 and followed it south to near the I-290 interchange, state police said. A 33-year-old Methuen man and a 29-year-old Haverhill woman were arrested, police said. They were taken back to Lawrence to face charges.
