Senior Center Committee Members Named

Four City Council members have been appointed to various Senior Center committees as the project moves forward.

City Council President Patricia Pope has announced the four council members that will serve on committees for the proposed Senior Center in Ward Park.

Councilor Matt Elder will serve on the Design Selection Committee. Elder has spoken about residents' concerns regarding the Ward Park location. He organized a public hearing to discuss these issues.

"As Ward Three Councilor, I believe that Mr. Elder's participation will ensure that the concerns of the folks in the nearby neighborhoods will be closely observed and mitigated," said Pope in a letter to the council.

Councilor Katherine Robey will serve on the Senior Center Advisory Committee.

As the Chair of the Human Services Committee, Councilor Robey is looking forward to working closely with the Director of the Council on Aging as well as other members of the committee," wrote Pope. "I know their cooperative efforts will result in a new Senior Center for which we'll all be proud."

Councilor Don Landers will serve on the Senior Center Advisory Committee.

"Councilor Landers has expressed his keen desire to be a member of the Senior Center Advisory Committee," said Pope.

Pope herself will serve as a member of the Senior Center Building Committee.

"For the past few months, I have visited various senior centers together with the Mayor and his staff," she said. "I believe this presents a unique opportunity to put together the very best of the projects we have seen in other communities."
