Slap In Checkout Line At Marlborough Grocery Store Leads To Charges

A 41-year-old Marlborough woman is facing multiple assault and battery charges after the incident.

MARLBOROUGH, MA — A Marlborough woman is facing multiple assault charges after a violent outburst at a local grocery store on Friday night, according to police.

Marlborough police went to the East Main Street Market 32 store near 11 p.m. Friday after a report of a woman acting out of control. According to police, the 41-year-old Marlborough resident was intoxicated and had been going in and out of the store throughout the evening Friday harassing customers and staff.

At one point, the woman exchanged words with a customer in a checkout line, and then slapped the shopper a couple of times, police said. The women then hit a Market 32 employee in the face while she attempted to escort the woman out of the store.

"[The woman] struck the female employee several times in the face, kicked her in the chest and knocked the phone out of her hand," police said.

The woman then ran off — but police caught her near the store. Police charged her with disorderly conduct, two counts of assault and battery, one count of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and trespassing.
