Spring Construction In Marlborough: See Projects Beginning Soon

From street rebuilds to a new boardwalk at Lake Williams, Marlborough's 2023 spring construction season is packed.

MARLBOROUGH, MA — With snow season (probably) over and daily temperatures (mostly) above the 40-degree mark, it's time for spring construction season to begin.

Marlborough has a big number of road and other infrastructure projects set to begin this spring. Some smaller projects will wrap up before summer is over, while others will last longer.

Here's a rundown of the upcoming projects, according to the Conservation Commission. Although these projects are planned, it's possible they could be delayed due to weather and other factors.

Cedar Hill Street — A complete rebuild of the road between the Northborough and Southborough town lines will commence with a finish date in about a year. Expect plenty of delays.

General roadway improvements — Sections of Marlborough roads including Russell Street, Spring Street, Gleason Street, Millham Street, Framingham Road, Liberty Street, Crescent Street, Gay Street and Witherbee Street will get paving, sidewalk and drainage improvements over the next 12 months.

Francis Street — The entire roadway from Bolton to East Main Street will be rebuilt through summer 2024.

Lake Williams — The city will begin work on a new boardwalk along a portion of the lake this summer. The project won't have any traffic impacts, and is being paid for out of the city's federal pandemic stimulus allotment.

Downtown — Over the next 12 months, the city will replace sidewalks, add new wheelchair ramps, enhance pedestrian crossings and streets lights and resurface roads in an area that includes Main Street, Court Street, Weed Street, Newton Street and Florence Street.

Hayes Memorial Drive — The portion of this road between Boston Post Road West and Bartlett Street will get new sidewalks, drainage improvements and a resurfacing. The work should be complete by summer 2024.

Eversource work — The utility company will add new gas main relays and pave trenches along Chandler, Lincoln, Akroyd, Fowler, Frances, Spring, Gleason and Russell streets over the next 12 months.
