Survey Launched For Marlborough Open Space and Recreation Plan

"This survey will help us update the plan and guide our investments."

MARLBOROUGH, MA—Marlborough officials are updating the 2019-2025 Open Space and Recreation Plan and has released a survey to solicit feedback from residents and visitors. The survey will help the Marlborough’s Open Space and Recreation Committee evaluate current and future needs for open space and recreation.

The survey is available on the city's home page under news and announcements. The survey take less than three minutes to complete and will be available until Sept. 30.

“Many of our goals for projects in the 2011-2018 plan were accomplished thanks to the leadership of Mayor Vigeant and the City Council,’” said Conservation Officer Priscilla Ryder in a statement.

“This survey will help us update the plan and guide our investments in Marlborough’s parks, recreational facilities, and conservation lands over the next seven years,” said Chuck Thebado, Marlborough’s director of parks and recreation, in a statement.

The list of accomplishments from Marlborough’s 2011-2018 Open Space and Recreation Plan includes a variety of projects:

Park and Playground improvements

  • Memorial Beach- reconstruction and playground installation
  • Playground upgrades at the Pappas Playground on John Street and Stevens Park
  • Ghiloni Park Splash Pad
  • Ward Park renovation
  • Jericho Hill trail system
  • Middle School football field & turf field installation
  • High School all-purpose turf field installation

Conservation/Watershed Land improvements

  • Lake Williams Trail construction
  • Community Garden established on Stow Road
  • Desert Natural Area: acquired all land locked parcels and protected whole area;
  • State Div. of Fish and Wildlife acquired and protected Flagg Swamp – 52 Acres are now protected
  • Received funding to build the 26.2 mile City wide Panther Trail and 33 mile intra community Borough’s trail.

Community wide improvements

  • Tree City USA –Became a designated Tree City
  • Complete Streets Policy – now all roadway projects are to promote pedestrians and cyclists
  • Private public partnership established with Marlborough Sports Partnership and the establishment of the local option meals tax for field improvements.
