MARLBOROUGH, MA—Marlborough public schools announced this week that the following five Whitcomb students earned gold medals for the National Latin Exam: Kobe Ameida, Courtney Sweeney, Andrew Fisher, Thiago Borges, and Emily Stagg. These dedicated students were recognized at the May 8 School Committee meeting.
The challenging test is taken by 150,000 students internationally and by 11,000 students in Massachusetts. MPS students did "extremely well," with 23 Whitcomb students earning awards as follows: 5 won gold medals; 5 won silver medals; 4 won Magna Cum Laude; 9 won Cum Laude.
Jocelyn Demuth, the students’ Latin teacher at Whitcomb, said in a statement, “I couldn’t be prouder of my Latin students on their outstanding results on this year’s National Latin Exam. This is a very tough exam that is difficult to prepare for. They showed how hard work pays off.”
