Cape Cod Man Tried To Smuggle Drug Money In Gifts At Logan: Feds
Prosecutors said Daniel Ormond tried to smuggle $100,000 hidden in what appeared to be gift-wrapped books through Logan Airport.

BOSTON, MA — A Cape Cod man who tried to smuggle $100,000 — most or all of it drug money — through Logan Airport was recently ordered to forfeit the money, federal prosecutors said Wednesday. Daniel Ormond, 32, tried to smuggle the money to California and hid it in what appeared to be gift-wrapped books, according to U.S. Attorney Andrew Lelling.
"Further inspection revealed, however, that the gift-wrapped 'books' were actually two separate bundles of currency sandwiched between cardboard and then wrapped in carbon-paper," Lelling said in a statement.
The incident happened May 26, 2016, Lelling said. A judge recently ordered the money seized.

"The currency was substantially connected to drug trafficking," Lelling added.
Ormond refused to explain the source of the money to investigators.
