Killing Frost Possible Overnight, Growing Season Likely to End

A frost advisory has been issued for Martha's Vineyard for overnight Sunday into Monday morning.

The growing season may come to an end Sunday night on Martha’s Vineyard, plus many areas of the South Shore, Cape Cod and the Islands.

Tender plants may be damaged by the cold temperatures overnight, according to the National Weather Service, which has issued a frost advisory for midnight on Sunday night through 9 a.m. on Monday. The frost advisory is for the immediate coastal area. Further inland a freeze warning has been issued.

The temperature is expected to drop close to freezing, into the mid to upper 30s, overnight on Sunday.

The frost advisory means that frost is expected to develop during the typical growing season and gardeners are recommended to either harvest beforehand, cover tender vegetation or bring it inside.
