Massachusetts Police Mourn One Of Their Own

YARMOUTH, MA — It was a tragic week for police agencies across Massachusetts following the death of Yarmouth Police Officer Sean Gannon. Gannon, 32, was shot and killed last week trying to arrest a career criminal on a probation violation. The tragedy highlighted the inherent dangers police officers face, especially serving warrants.

Police said Thomas Latanowich, a Somerville man with 125 criminal charges, shot Gannon and his police dog in Barnstable as officers surrounded his house. Read more.

The dog, Nero, survived multiple emergency surgeries and was released from a veterinary hospital this week. Read more.

In Charlestown, a man who barricaded himself inside an apartment, ripped a gas line from the wall, and tried to set the place on fire was thwarted by Boston Police Friday. Read more.

In Natick, police said officers struggled with a man who threatened a jogger with a knife. Natick officers also arrested a woman on disorderly conduct charges and police said she slipped out of handcuffs at one point but was rearrested.
