Medfield Historical Society Presents "Corn, Chowder, and Cranberries"
On Wednesday, November 19 at 5:30 PM, the Medfield Historical Society will present a talk on the history of "Corn, Chowder, and Cranberries" with Clara Silverstein at The Center at Medfield (Council on Aging), One Icehouse Road in Medfield.
Silverstein, former Boston Herald food writer and author, will detail the origin and development of some of our region's most well-known staples. Any New Englander can point to corn, chowder, and cranberries as essential parts of local cuisine. But how did they become staples in our diet?
This talk will take you back to the 17th century to explore Native American and English foodways. Learnhow European settlers adapted crops native to North America in their recipes and created classics including Indian pudding and clam chowder.

Slverstein will trace the path of cranberries from bogs in Southeastern Massachusetts to the Thanksgiving table, and end with a look at how a few of Boston's contemporary chefs use corn, chowder, and cranberries, too.
