Medfield Siblings Running Coat Drive

MEDFIELD, MA — Over the last few holiday seasons, Medfield High School student Kaitlyn McCarthy has organized drives to collect winter coats for those in need.

McCarthy is now a senior, so she's enlisting her brother Michael, a sixth grader at Blake Middle School, to help this year and continue the drive when she goes off to college next year.

The siblings have teamed up with Coats for Kids and Anton's Cleaners to collect coat donation as the winter weather rolls in. Winter coats for both children and adults are gladly accepted.

"This an amazing opportunity to help those in need during an extraordinarily difficult year," McCarthy said. "Over the last few years the generous residents of Medfield have donated close to 600 coats. We hope to collect and distribute many warm coats again this year."

Coats for Kids' goal is to collect, clean and distribute coats to those in need. The foundation started in 1995 and has collected over one million coats throughout the years, keeping those in need warm during the winter weather.

Those with coats they no longer need, or have outgrown, are asked to donate them to the cause. Even during this pandemic, donating can be done safely. Coats can be dropped off at Medfield High School or in the large plastic bin in the McCarthy's driveway at 11 Knollwood Rd. Donations can also be dropped off directly at Anton's Cleaners.

Donations will be accepted until Jan. 10.
