Sustainable Medfield Launches Water-Wise Action of the Quarter

Clean water is one of the world's most important resources. Join with other town organizations to help conserve and protect this resource.

Medfield, 7/14/2023 - Sustainable Medfield is pleased to announce that its Action of the Quarter is "Conserve and Protect Our Precious Water." This action is centered around promoting water wisdom and encouraging residents to conserve the Earth’s most valuable natural resource. With two different but equally important focuses, water quality, and water conservation, Sustainable Medfield aims to raise awareness and encourage the town to take sustainable actions that protect our water sources.

Sustainable Medfield works to amplify and elevate the messages of other organizations so by working with the Charles River Watershed Association, Medfield's Conservation Commission, Board of Health, the Medfield Garden Club, the Neponset River Watershed Association and other local groups this quarter, we will develop and share ideas that can contribute to the overall health of our waterways and protect local drinking water. Join other Medfielders as we make waves for a sustainable future, one drop at a time!

Throughout this quarter you will learn that by adopting simple yet impactful measures, such as fixing leaks, keeping fertilizers and dog waste out of our watershed, and practicing responsible irrigation techniques, Medfielders can collectively make a difference in conserving water and keeping it clean. These tips will include effective strategies for reducing water usage at home, lowering water bills as well as protecting the quality of our water. Water conservation is a shared responsibility, and Sustainable Medfield encourages every Medfield resident to play a part in their own home.

In June, Sustainable Medfield co-hosted a MEMO concert and gave away native plants which require less water than their non-native counterparts to raise awareness of how to conserve water. Watch for other opportunities for engagement on water such as a kids' coloring contest and a movie night. The Sustainable Medfield booth at Medfield Day will also have a water focus.
