Transformer Explosion to Blame for Power Outage in Medfield Wednesday

Phone lines at Town Hall are reportedly down.

It was a dark morning in parts of Medfield Wednesday. Literally.

A reported transformer explosion in the area of South and Oak streets resulted in downed wires and multiple power outages in several areas of town, including Medfield Town Hall, officials said.

The Medfield Fire Department confirmed Wednesday morning that a box was struck for the explosion that resulted in downed wires, and drivers were asked to avoid the area until the lines had been secured.

NSTAR reported to the scene Wednesday to isolate the outage directly to a transformer, and Medfield Town Hall had been without power for about an hour before full power was subsequently restored, according to a post on Medfield Selectmen Chair Osler “Pete” Peterson’s Medfield 02052 blog.

The power outage had disabled the phone system at town hall, according to the post.
