: Mark Arena was sworn in to the city council Tuesday night, replacing Stephanie Burke, who is now the city's budget and personnel director.

: A house fire broke out at 44 Sherwood Road at about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday. Four occupants escaped unharmed.

: Roger Beattie was arraigned yesterday in Middlesex County Superior Court in Woburn, where he was ordered held on $20,000 cash bail on two counts of perjury. Prosecutors allege Beattie lied about witnessing his roommate kill another man last summer.

: A meeting to discuss the second phase of the extension, which could include a station on Route 16 near the Medford/Somerville line, will take place at 6 p.m. at Brooks School tonight.
