Call From Witness Leads to Arrest of Break-In Suspects

Trio arrested Thursday in break-ins in Medford Square area.

A willing witness and ready police patrol led to the arrest of three people responsible for two house breaks near Medford Square Thursday, police said.

Police were on Forest Street investigating a previous break-in at about 3:40 p.m. Thursday, when they received a report of a breaking and entering in progress on Governors Avenue, according to a press release from police Lt. Paul Covino.

The witness said they saw a man climb through a basement window into a Governors Avenue home, then flee in a silver Dodge truck with two other people toward Medford Square, police said.

Officer Eleanor Whalen, who was in a marked cruiser, spotted the truck turning eastbound on Route 16 off Main Street.

She attempted to stop the truck, but its operator repeatedly slowed the vehicle down only to speed back up again, police said. Officer Joseph Casey assisted and the vehicle was eventually stopped.

Based on a detailed description from the witness, and goods found in the truck, police believe the three people inside were responsible for both the break-in on Forest Street and the one on Governors Avenue, Covino said in the release.

Maria Desimone, 38, of Revere is charged with breaking and entering, and receiving stolen property (more than $250).

Doug Bergeron, 29, of 7 Eastman St. in Medford is charged with possession of burglarious equipment, entering a dwelling at night, and receiving stolen property (more than $250).

Paul Spencer, 24, of 11 Gilson Ave. in Medford is charged with failure to stop for police, receiving stolen property (more than $250) breaking and entering.
