Hearing Delayed in South Medford Murder Case

Shawntina Burston was scheduled to appear in Somerville District Court yesterday, but her hearing was postponed until March.

A South Medford woman accused of fatally stabbing her husband while their two young children slept upstairs had a scheduled hearing postponed Friday.

Shawntina Burston, 38, was scheduled to appear in Somerville District Court for a probable cause hearing on Friday, but it has been postponed until March 30, according to District Attorney spokeswoman Cara O'Brien.

Burston allegedly used a kitchen knife to stab her husband Troy Burston in the upper-left chest during an argument at their Exchange Avenue residence on January 30.

Troy Burston stumbled outside after the stabbing and was found shirtless lying in a bloody snowbank, according to police reports.

In the argument leading up to the stabbing, Shawntina Burston tore off her husbands shirt and found a hickey on his chest, prosecutors said.

The couple's two young children, ages 3 and 6, were asleep upstairs at the time of the killing, according to police reports.

Burston pleaded not guilty and was ordered held without bail at an arraignment the day after the killing.
