Medford Schools Back in Session Wednesday

After three days off, Medford schools will be back in session Wednesday, according to an e-mail from Medford Public Schools Superintendent Roy Belson.

due to one of the biggest blizzards in the history of the region. Medford received two feet of snow from the Blizzard of 2013 and the clean-up is ongoing.

Belson said that while sidewalks and bus stops are "improved," parents and guardians are being asked "to work with each other to escort young children to school and to wait with them at bus stops.

"We ask motorists to drive very slowly and be alert for pedestrian traffic," Belson said. "Our Buses will run a little slower so be patient. Thanks for your understanding and cooperation."

The Medford Public Schools will re-open on Wednesday, February 13, 2013 with a normal starting time and Wednesday schedule.

Many thanks to our city workers, school staff, contractors, and residents who worked long hours to clear our schools, walkways and bus stops. This was an extraordinary storm and there was a massive workload. We appreciate the coordination and direction from the Mayor’s office, which targeted the areas of greatest concern to the schools and provided extra person power to get the job done.

While there is great improvement to the sidewalks and bus stops, I am asking parents of younger children to work together to ensure that all are supervised on their way to school or at the bus stops. We want to go the extra mile and take every precaution to ensure the safety of our children. We ask that all motorists drive slower than usual and keep extra alert for pedestrians of all ages. I am confident that you will all pay extra
attention in the days ahead.

School buses will also move somewhat more slowly and rides should anticipate some delays with pick-up and drop off.

Thank you for all your encouragement and cooperation during this snow emergency. Let’s make sure that we take the extra steps to ensure safety for all going forward.
