Obituary: Raymond Murano, Former Superintendent of Medford Public Schools

Murano died on April 4.

Murano-Raymond S. of Medford, April 4, 2015. Beloved husband of the late Mary(DeNicola). Loving father of Dr. Raymond and his wife Sharon Murano of Winchester and Dr. Joseph and his wife Barbara Murano of Medford. Also survived by three grandchildren Raymond III, Jaclyn, and Joseph Murano II. Loving brother of Florence Lessard of Hudson, NH . Also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Raymond Murano served the Medford Public Schools for over 44 years as a teacher, supervisor of elementary education, and later was promoted director of elementary education and superintendent of the Medford Public Schools.

Mr. Murano’s educational background includes post-graduate studies at Tufts University, Boston University and Harvard.

Raymond Murano enjoyed music as a hobby and he began studying clarinet privately under the direction of Mr. Emil Archeri, a renowned musician with the Boston Symphony Orchestra.

Mr. Murano incorporated his musical background when he served with the United States Air Force for his military service where he played and helped to organize various Air Force bands. His service includes being stationed in Hawaii and was involved in the occupation of Tarawa and Kwagelene in the south pacific during World War II.

Raymond Murano is past a president of the Medford Kiwanis Club and also held membership in Massachusetts Association of School Superintendents, New England Association of School Superintendents and the American Association of School Superintendents.

Raymond Murano held the community service award for the greater Boston Association of Retarded Children and the presented the citizen of the year award by B’Nai B’Rith Organization of Medford.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral mass on Thursday April 9, 2015 in St. Patrick’s Church, Central St., Stoneham at 11:00 A.M. Entombment Holy Cross Cemetery Malden. Visiting hours prior to the funeral mass in the Cincotti Funeral Home, 421 High St., Medford from 8:30 to 10:30 A.M. Late Vet W.W. II U.S. Air Force. In lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy in his memory may be made to the charity of your choice.
