UPDATED: Woman Arrested in Medford After Allegedly Robbing Store Using Syringe
Woman robbed store in Malden, crashed into snowbank in Medford, police said.
A woman who allegedly robbed a Malden store with a syringe Monday afternoon was later arrested on Fourth Street in Medford, police said.
Ashley M. Phelan, 24, of 445 Medford St., Malden was arrested Monday afternoon, shortly after trying to rob SulAmerica Enterprises on Main Street in Malden about 1 p.m., according to Malden Police Lt. Marc Gatcomb.
“She tried to cash a check there and when the clerk refused, she produced a syringe/needle and threatened the clerk, who picked up a chair to attempt to defend himself,” according to a statement from Gatcomb.

Nobody was injured in the exchange, Gatcomb said.
Phelan sped off in a car stolen from her mother and crashed it into a snow band on Fourth Street in the Wellington area of Medford, where she was arrested, police said.

It is believed she was heading to a relative’s home on Second Street.
