Doug Flutie Films Eastern Bank Commercial In Downtown Melrose

The former New England Patriots quarterback was spotted along Main Street in Melrose on Thursday afternoon.

MELROSE, MA – Former New England Patriots Quarterback Doug Flutie was spotted alongside production crews on scene on Main Street in Melrose early Thursday afternoon as part of a commercial shoot for Eastern Bank.

The commercial was coordinated with city officials and was scheduled to wrap around 4 p.m., according to Melrose Director of Economic Development Lauren Grymek.

Contacted by Patch, Eastern Bank Senior Vice President of Public Relations and Communications Andrea Goodman confirmed that Flutie was participating in the commercial.

Eastern Bank is based in Boston and has worked with Flutie in the past as part of its Partners for Good initiative. The bank, which has a branch on Main Street in Melrose, runs the Partners for Good initiative to support various community organizations and programs in the communities it serves.

"We're really proud of the branch and Melrose and are proud of the employees that help us serve the community there," Goodman said.

The bank's commercial shoot occupied a series of parking spaces along Main Street according to Grymek. It was not scheduled to involve any closures of Main Street itself.

Flutie was a Heisman Trophy winner in 1984 when he played for the Boston College Eagles football team. He went on to enjoy a 20-year professional career in the Canadian Football League and the NFL before he retired in 2005.
