East Knoll Field Closed for Summer Repairs

Drainage improvements aim to mitigate flooding problems on the field.

The is closed for the summer as the city makes drainage improvements to alleviate flooding problems on the field, according to a press release from .

Like many of the fields in and around the Ell Pond area, stormwater drainage has been a problem on the East Knoll. According to the press release, Director John Scenna said there are two particularly problematic low spots on the field.

Drainage structures are being added in the low lying areas of the field and the DPW is regarding the field so it drains towards those new structures.

"This regrading effort should expedite the draining of the field, and adding these basins will remove water from the field," Scenna said in the press release. "When the project is complete, the playing surface will be resodded and the balance of the area disturbed will be reseeded."

The facility should be ready for fall play after Labor Day according to the release.
