Melrose Downtown Parking Workshop

The City of Melrose is hosting a Downtown Parking Workshop on Thursday, June 23, 2011 at 7:00 PM. The meeting will take place in the Memorial Hall GAR Room, 590 Main St., Melrose.

The Downtown Parking Workshop is the second in a two-part series of public meetings that are being held in conjunction with the development of a Downtown Parking Management Plan. The Plan is made possible by technical assistance awarded to the City through the Commonwealth’s Department of Housing and Community Development Downtown Initiative grant program.  The planning process includes the evaluation of downtown parking supply, use, and needs en route to the development of parking management strategies.  The Plan is intended to encourage economic development by providing parking improvements through an active parking management system.

The Downtown Parking Workshop will include a presentation of the findings from the data collection process as well as a summary of feedback from completed surveys and the Downtown Parking Open House. In addition, draft recommendations will be presented followed by discussion.  Participants will be invited to share their input regarding key parking issues such as extending parking time limits, new long-term parking designations, a new layout for Dills Court, and restructuring the commercial and resident permit systems.
