Melrose Announces Sweeping Measures To Battle Coronavirus
The city is shutting down school events to the public, closing Memorial Hall for more than a month and more.

MELROSE, MA — Mayor Paul Brodeur on Thursday announced several measures being rolled out by the city to combat the growing coronavirus threat.
It was also announced soon after in an email to parents that Melrose Public Schools will close at noon Friday for a deep cleaning. The schools are scheduled to reopen at the normal time Monday.
Events at Melrose Public Schools will be closed to the public. Student events outside of Melrose are suspended through April 17, not including sporting events. The district is awaiting guidance from the MIAA on sports.

The Milano Senior Center will be closed from from Monday through April 17. The senior shuttle will only be available for routine medical appointments, and it only take one person at a time.
Several city events have been canceled or postponed, including Kids Club (March and April); St. Patrick’s Day Lunch at the Milano Center; The Chili Chowder Fest; The Melrose Trivia Bee ; The International Welcome Reception; and the Intergenerational Spring Fling.
As of Tuesday afternoon, the city did not have any positive COVID-19 cases.
