Melrose Breaks For Biden In Presidential Primary

Sen. Elizabeth Warren finished second and Sen. Bernie Sanders third as nearly 10,500 hit the polls on Super Tuesday.

MELROSE, MA — Joe Biden's nationwide surge and shocking Massachusetts victory seeped into the polls in Melrose's Democratic primary.

The former vice president took the city with 3,105 votes, according to unofficial results. Sen. Elizabeth Warren, who suffered a humiliating third-place finish in her home state, was second in Melrose with 2,496 votes, while Sen. Bernie Sanders had 1,933 and billionaire Mike Bloomberg had 1,094.

Former mayor of South Bend, Ind., Pete Buttigieg, finished fifth with 203 votes despite dropping out of the race over the weekend. He still finished far ahead of the fifth Democratic candidate, Tulsi Gabbard, who had 63 votes.

In the Republican primary, President Trump had 1,173 votes, while former Massachusetts Gov. Bill Weld had 159.

Nearly 10,500 residents showed up to the polls with two elections: the primary and the special House election, which City Councilor Kate Lipper-Garabedian took easily.
