Melrose Couple Scammed Elderly People Out Of Millions: AG
The Boston Globe reported Attorney General Maura Healey sued the couple after they allegedly bilked at least $2.4 million from victims.
MELROSE, MA — A Melrose couple is being sued by the state attorney general for running a multi-million dollar scheme that targeted elderly people and charging them for fixing computer problems that never existed, according to the lawsuit obtained by The Boston Globe.
The lawsuit said Shalu and Vishal Chawla ran the scam company, Vtech Software Solutions Inc., through their home and bilked victims out of at least $2.4 million.
Online records show Vishal Chawla as the owner of a Hopkins Street home and a small piece of land on nearby Oxford Street.

A lawyer for the Chawlas told the Globe his clients initially thought they were involved in a legitimate business but were "bamboozled" by family in India.
