Melrose Native Battling ALS Throws First Pitch At Sox Game
Calgary Flames assistant general manager and Melrose native Chris Snow threw out the ceremonial first pitch with his family at Fenway Park.

MELROSE, MA — A father of two got to throw out the first pitch at the Red Sox vs. Rays game for his 40th birthday on Thursday.
A memorable feat no doubt, but a few years ago, Chris Snow was told he would never see his 40th birthday, the Boston Globe reported in an article Thursday.
Snow, who turned 40 on Wednesday, was diagnosed with ALS in June of 2019.

Snow, who is the assistant general manager to the Calgary Flames and former Red Sox beat reporter for the Boston Globe got to re-live his time in Boston while on vacation from Calgary with his family.
After learning of his diagnosis, Snow signed up for a clinical trial to battle the crippling disease, and so far, his debilitating symptoms have slowed, the Globe reported.

The Globe reported that he had already lost the use of his throwing hand, but wasn't letting anything stop him. After losing his father, two uncles and a 28-year-old cousin to the same disease, Snow is learning to adapt to his new physical limitations and even taught himself to be left-handed, throwing out the first pitch with his non-dominant hand.
"He's a darn good southpaw,' his 10-year-old son said in the article.
The Globe reports that Snow and his wife Kelsie are both serious advocates for ALS research, and with the help of this trial drug from Biogen, they hope Snow will be the first person to live with ALS instead of dying from it.
