Melrose Preliminary Mayoral Election: What To Know, Where To Vote

MELROSE, MA — Voters will head to the polls Tuesday, Sept. 17, to decide which two candidates continue their campaigns to be new mayor of Melrose. The preliminary election will see voters choose only one candidate; the two that receive the most votes will move on to November's election.

Tuesday will eliminate three candidates from the field of five — Alderman Manisha Bewtra, former Director of Community Services and City Operations Jackie Lavender Bird, State Rep. Paul Brodeur, Alderman Monica Medeiros and Alderman Mike Zwirko.

Two of the hopefuls will will look to become the city's first newly elected mayor since Robert Dolan in 2001. Current Mayor Gail Infurna took over Dolan's term at the beginning of last year. Infurna said from the start she wouldn't run for mayor once she finished Dolan's term.
