MELROSE, MA — The city reached a new collective bargaining agreement with the Melrose Patrol Officers and Superior Police Officers Associations Wednesday, according to Mayor Jen Grigoraitis’s office.

The new contracts include the creation of a Deputy Chief position, wage adjustments, and some new promotional procedures that aim to better evaluate candidates’ abilities and qualities.

Grigoraitis attributed the successful negotiations to the common understanding of the city’s financial challenges between the two sides.
