Melrose Schools Prepping Second Draft Of Return Plan
The second draft will be shared this week and may address some concerns the school community expressed.

MELROSE, MA — The school district's next draft of its return-to-instruction plan will be shared later this week, days before a comprehensive plan needs to be submitted to the state.
The leadership team is spending Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday working on the second draft of the plan. It will be emailed to the school community Friday and presented at the Aug. 11 School Committee meeting, when the public will have the opportunity to comment on it.
The plan will submitted to the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education Aug. 12, not Aug. 10, as the district timeline says.

The public comment on the initial draft was revealing. More than 50 people spoke for over two hours, expressing concerns about the equity of remote learning, length of in-class school days and a number of other topics.
It remains to be seen how Superintendent Julie Kukenberger and the rest of the leadership team will react to those concerns.

The Aug. 11 meeting will be the School Committee's first in-person meeting in months. The public will still need to watch and comment remotely.
